The aim of this study was to evaluate effectiveness of the Mother-Child Relationship Education Program on changing mother’s authoritarian and Permissive parenting styles. Research design of study was quasi-experimental pre-test and post test with the control group. For this purpose 30 mothers of primary school children between 7-10 years old in the first grade to fourth in Azarshahr - Tabriz in 2013-2014 were randomly selected by cluster sampling method and then randomly assigned to two experimental (n =15), and control (n =15) groups. Educational package was trained to experimental group parents in 10 sessions. to assess the effects of intervention, Bamrynd parenting styles questionnaire was conducted before and after training sessions for both groups. To evaluate the permanency of intervention effects two months after the intervention, in theparticipants both groups were re-assessed. The results of one-way covariance analysis showed that the intervention had significant effect on authoritarian parenting style (p>0/05). But it had not significant effect on Permissive parenting style (p>0/05). According to these findings, it could be concluded that the training was effective merely in changing authoritarian parenting styles. This effect was permanent in two months follow up.
